The Common Concern of a College Freshman

Nothing can compare to the emotions that run through a 1st year college student the moment they step into their dorm room for the first time. It is then that the reality really sets in…

“I’m living on my own now!”

The best way I’d describe this feeling is immense excitement mixed with debilitating fear. Sure, now you can stay up as late as you want without having to sneak in (depending on your roommate) but now you have to wash your own clothes…This is only one of many common anxieties a college freshman may face. Perhaps one of the biggest, however, is:

How do I get around?
There is a good chance you are going to school in a completely new town or city perhaps hundreds of miles from your comfort zone. One of the first things you should do is become familiar with the area. Sure, you could spend all of your time walking around on campus, but even the most studious of individuals needs a break sometime. Maybe there is a reliable mass transit system accessible nearby. Find out where it can take you. Familiarize yourself with the nearest grocery stores, restaurants, medical facilities, shopping centers, and entertainment. If your new home is fairly spread out, perhaps you should ship your car to campus. Auto shipping conserves gas and prevents wear and tear or potential accidents on the long road trip from home to school. It also saves you valuable time, which you can use to establish new relationships and get to know your facilities. Having your own car on campus helps in cases of emergency, transporting large items like new furniture or supplies, and socially it gives you the opportunity to meet new people by carpooling.

Now that you have automotive freedom, it is time to find the best routes around the city. Is there major road construction nearby? What are the local driving laws? Where are the best places to park? Most Freshman discover that once they have fully discovered their new home it is easy to feel comfortable in any situation your new independent life might present.

Get the Exact Car You Want…Buy It Online!

Gone are the days of being limited by the auto selection of your nearest car dealer. Most used and new car dealers across the country make their entire selection available online, providing a much larger pool for the consumer to choose from. These auto dealers will even use auto shipment services to deliver your dream car right to your doorstep.

eBay.com is also becoming a popular tool for auto buyers. It is now possible to find the exact car you want, down to your preferred color and features, for the price you want without any haggling whatsoever. According to InsiderCarSecrets.com every 60 seconds someone buys a car or truck on eBay Motors and over 2 million vehicles have sold to date. Buying a big purchase on eBay can naturally make a person nervous. There are a few methods you can use, however, to avoid scams and disappointment;

1. Utilize eBay’s built-in buyer tools. Not only can you check feedback on the seller (beware anyone under 99%), but eBay has pricing guides, vehicle histories, and auto reviews available directly through their website.
2. If you have doubts, contact the seller! Just because you are buying a car over the internet does not mean you can’t establish ‘real world’ contact.
3. Request an inspection. eBay offers inspection services in most major cities.
4. When you receive your new car, make sure the VIN number matches the eBay ad.

You can also save money by shipping your car, as opposed to spending money on flights, hotels and putting unnecessary mileage on your new purchase.

Conserving Gas in a Digital World

With gas prices soaring well above four dollars a gallon in many parts of the country, saving money on gas consumption is probably the biggest hot topic in America today. Given the alarming cost of getting around nowadays, it is important to make the time spent in your car as efficient as possible. Here are some tips for economizing your travel this summer:
1. Go shopping once a week at a large super-center to pick up everything you need at once as opposed to making several smaller trips during the week. At many large wholesale markets they also sell gas at discount prices to members, so this can be a good opportunity to fill up for the week as well.
2. You may find your work schedule can be adjusted. Telecommuting has become very common in today’s workforce and many people are finding it possible to do their jobs from home. Talk to your boss and see if instead of five 8-hour days, you can work four 10 hour days, or even 3 normal days and work from home the rest.
3. When travelling, instead of driving to the beach in your gas guzzler, consider shipping your car instead. You can not only save money on gas, but help prevent further wear and tear on you car. Perhaps your destination has everything you need within walking distance, so rent one way.

Is It Time to Permanently Park the Car Yet?

parked carAs the cost of gas continues to rise, many people are looking for alternative forms of transportation such as auto transport and motorcycle transport (for those motorcycle owners out there) to ship their vehicles in a last ditch, somewhat desperate attempt to save money. But is it working?

Car shipping has quickly become more and more popular with consumers. And while there are still those (somewhat stubborn) families who prefer to make the long road trips from New York to Florida to go on vacation, increasing numbers of people are opting to park their cars or ship them instead versus spending all of that money in gasoline. But can you really blame them. With the price of gas showing little to no signs of going down, it’s a wonder that anyone drives at all.

Cyclists Versus Motorists

cyclist versus carWhen it comes to sharing the roadways, who is supposed to have the right of way? There are many drivers who claim that they have the right of way when on the road. The truth of the matter is, however, that many motorists simply get annoyed too easily. If you think about it, we have to share the roadways with drivers who operate heavy equipment (i.e. tractors, construction vehicles).

There are also those drivers who get annoyed with the amount of traffic that is on the roadways. With gas prices on the rise, many people have opted for auto shipping versus driving their car anywhere. However, this still doesn’t prevent tempers from flaring for those remaining motorists who feel that they shouldn’t have to deal with cyclists on the roadways. According to a recent article in the Los Angeles Times, a driver became enraged when he had to share the roadway with some cyclists, so he slammed on his brakes in front of them, which caused one cyclist to be propelled through the air and into the car’s rear window while another cyclist was forced to the pavement.

While road rage is not uncommon, something still needs to be done. Although more drivers are relying on auto transport to ship their cars versus making long road trips, it is still not enough. Drivers need to know and realize that the roadways are made (for the most part) to be shared.

Afraid to Ship Your Car?

car transportThere are plenty of reasons that I could think of for not wanting to part with my car. For starters, I’m still paying off my car, and so if anything were to happen to it (i.e. it get lost, stolen, damaged), I would naturally be devastated. However, many people are inclined to think of auto transport in other ways- especially now that the United States is in the middle of a gas crisis.

While you may be inclined to worry about your vehicle, many auto transport companies nowadays are fairly reliable. Just do your research to make sure you know what the finer details are. If you have to, look up a few vehicle transport companies in your area. Call them with any questions or concerns you may have. If the company representative acts like they don’t care, then you may want to have other options available.

What, Do They Think We’re Made of Money?

made of moneyIncreasing numbers of people are becoming upset at the fact that gas prices keep going up. But what are we really going to do about it? Some have resorted to all sorts of desperate measures such as car pooling and [gasp!] taking the bus. But, realistically, how long is that going to last before it gets old? Combine the gas crisis with the problems that the housing market is facing, and it really makes you wonder, “Does the government think that we are made of money?”

Because of the housing crisis and all of the foreclosures, etc., many people are either being forced to move out of state or are choosing to get out before it’s too late. For this reason, many are beginning to turn to auto transport as a viable option versus driving long distances. I don’t know about you, but if it came down to driving my car down to Florida from Maine, I’m going to be the first one looking into what auto relocation services are available in my area.

Now, while cars are the most popular thing that people ship when they make a big move from one state to another, we can’t forget about those people who own boats or even RVs. For this reason, there are also boat transport and RV shipping services available as well. You would think that if you owned an RV, you’d drive it across the country…After all, isn’t that what they’re really made for? But perhaps not surprisingly, even RV owners are trying to save a few bucks as well as the extra wear and tear on their vehicles. Auto shipping just seems like a really good choice!
