Is It Time to Permanently Park the Car Yet?

parked carAs the cost of gas continues to rise, many people are looking for alternative forms of transportation such as auto transport and motorcycle transport (for those motorcycle owners out there) to ship their vehicles in a last ditch, somewhat desperate attempt to save money. But is it working?

Car shipping has quickly become more and more popular with consumers. And while there are still those (somewhat stubborn) families who prefer to make the long road trips from New York to Florida to go on vacation, increasing numbers of people are opting to park their cars or ship them instead versus spending all of that money in gasoline. But can you really blame them. With the price of gas showing little to no signs of going down, it’s a wonder that anyone drives at all.

Cyclists Versus Motorists

cyclist versus carWhen it comes to sharing the roadways, who is supposed to have the right of way? There are many drivers who claim that they have the right of way when on the road. The truth of the matter is, however, that many motorists simply get annoyed too easily. If you think about it, we have to share the roadways with drivers who operate heavy equipment (i.e. tractors, construction vehicles).

There are also those drivers who get annoyed with the amount of traffic that is on the roadways. With gas prices on the rise, many people have opted for auto shipping versus driving their car anywhere. However, this still doesn’t prevent tempers from flaring for those remaining motorists who feel that they shouldn’t have to deal with cyclists on the roadways. According to a recent article in the Los Angeles Times, a driver became enraged when he had to share the roadway with some cyclists, so he slammed on his brakes in front of them, which caused one cyclist to be propelled through the air and into the car’s rear window while another cyclist was forced to the pavement.

While road rage is not uncommon, something still needs to be done. Although more drivers are relying on auto transport to ship their cars versus making long road trips, it is still not enough. Drivers need to know and realize that the roadways are made (for the most part) to be shared.
